Deacon Otis

Says the unsayable, equal-opportunity outrage, and turns the blade on himself last.

Deacon Otis is six feet eight inches of unsolicited truth, and he is not finished. Part preacher, part prosecutor, wholly exhausted by everyone including himself, he mounts the pulpit to tell the modern congregation what is wrong with it, and stays to tell them what is wrong with him.

From the Back Pew is his running sermon on wellness culture, self-help, comfort, and the great modern talent for paying good money to be told the obvious.

“I attended your wellness retreat. Grown adults pay good money to be told to breathe.”
“Everybody wants to speak their truth. Nobody wants to hear mine, and mine is better.”
